Thanks for the question. I’m sure many of us have been in the same situation. What you will find is your current carrier is most likely going to have an accident surcharge on the renewal. If you start researching insurance companies, you will find there are companies that can waive an accident or may have a smaller surcharge or at least a better rate/package to begin with. You might think of the positive side of the accident; it may be a blessing in that it will at least get you to check out and learn about other carriers’ packages.
Most likely you’re going to have to get both the car and home/renters at the same time to get all the possible discounts. This is one of the best way to lower your premiums. I do know that Farmers Insurance Company is offering an additional 20% for new customers that is permanent, not just for one renewal. So, given the economic times, insurance companies are out looking to recruit new customers. Now would be a good time shop for the best price, but ensure you get the coverage you need. When comparing prices, make sure you are getting quotes for the same coverage and deductibles also.
